Does Eero Work with Starlink? Here’s How To Connect Them

Starlink’s internet service is fast. According to Starlink, most of their users experience download speeds over 100Mbps. With such speeds, you can stream 4K videos, game glitch-free, join video conferences, and forget what it’s like to wait for chunky websites to load.

But if you live in a big home, you might need more than Starlink’s router to cover your living space.

A quick solution to this is using mesh systems like Eero or Orbi to deal with dead zones. If you’re like me, looking to stretch your Starink’s coverage might lead you to ask if Eero works with Starlink.

Eero does work with Starlink, but the new Starlink modem does not have an Ethernet port. So, you will need an extra accessory to make this connection.

This article provides in-depth steps for making this connection so you can enjoy the same speeds anywhere in your home. Let’s get started.

How to set up Eero with Starlink

Setting up Eero with Starlink is relatively easy. Connecting my new Eero devices to Starlink took me about 20 minutes.

You’ll need to follow these steps if you are using a Starlink generation two router.

Connect the Starlink ethernet adapter to the Starlink router: Unplug the Starlink dish cable from Starlink’s router if it is connected, and connect the ethernet adapter to its place.

Connect the satellite cable to the ethernet adapter: Connect the cable from the Starlink satellite dish to the port on the ethernet adapter.

Connect Eero’s gateway router to the ethernet adapter: Use an Ethernet cable to connect your gateway Eero device to the Starlink ethernet adapter.

Plug one cable end into the Eero’s WAN port and the other into one of the ethernet adapter’s LAN ports.

Finish setting up your Eero network: Once you connect your Eero, it will automatically detect the internet connection and start the setup process.

Download the Eero app to your smartphone or tablet and start the setup process.

Follow the instructions on the Eero app to set up the Eero system. This process typically involves connecting the Eero to your smartphone, setting up your network name and password, and placing the Eero nodes around your home for optimal coverage.

Enable Bypass Mode: The final step is to allow your Eero system to manage your internet connection. To do this, you must turn off the WiFi network created by Starlink’s generation 2 router.

Open the Starlink app on your smartphone, select the settings tab, and enable Bypass Mode.

Enabling Bypass Mode will deactivate the WiFi functionality of the Starlink router.

QUICK TIP

If you want to use both the WiFi on the Starlink router and the Eero Mesh system, There’s no need to disable the Bypass Mode.

However, to avoid overlapping with the Starlink router, you must change the WiFi channels for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies on the Eero Mesh system.

Intel recommends setting the channel width to 20 for 2.4 GHz and 40 for 5 GHz frequencies to avoid interference.

NOTE

After disabling bypass mode on Starlink’s router, you won’t be able to access the Starlink stats page via static route to 192.168.100.1 (dishy.starlink.com) with your Eero router.

This problem isn’t a Starlink issue but an Eero issue. Accessing Starlink’s Stats page will require setting a Starlink static access on Eero, which is impossible.

Eero routers lack static IP address capability. So, if you’re using Eero as your mesh system of choice, the Starlink app may work, but with the “network” link grayed out.

Alternative mesh routers like Unifi Dream Router would allow you to perform a static IP addressing function.
